WEATHERIZATION

Program Director:   Mike Isitoro   (815) 338-7752

The purpose of the Weatherization Program is to significantly reduce heating costs and conserve energy nationwide.

Weatherization is provided free to qualified McHenry County residents through a grant from the Illinois Department of  Public Aid.

Clients who participate in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) automatically qualify for Weatherization.

Renters may be assisted under this program provided they meet income guidelines, and their landlord agrees to pay the portion of the cost.

A certified auditor conducts an assessment of the home.  The information collected is analyzed by computer to determine what materials are most cost effective.  Contractors install the materials.  In addition, an experienced heating contractor examines the heating system to assure the system is safe and in good working order.  Once the work is completed, the materials installed and the furnace work complete, all are inspected by certified personnel to make sure all work was done completely and correctly.

WEATHERIZATION INCLUDES:

  • sealing cracks
  • adding insulation
  • repairing windows
  • weather stripping and caulking
  • minor home repairs and various other energy  conservation measures that will make the home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
  • tune, clean, and safety check of the furnace retrofits to increase heating system efficiency such as vent dampers,  clock thermostats and electronic ignitions
  • smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
