Below you will find descriptions of various apartment complexes with open waiting lists, and links to download preapplication forms to be put on the various waiting lists.  Preapplication forms must be completed and mailed to the McHenry County Housing Authority, 1108 N. Seminary Avenue, PO Box 1109, Woodstock, Illinois.  A background check form should be completed for each member of the family that is 17 years of age or older.  Background check forms must be submitted with each completed preapplication form.

Public Housing  The McHenry County Housing Authority Public Housing Program consists of 23 3-bedroom single family and duplex units throughout McHenry County.  Note:  families must be large enough to qualify for a 3-bedroom unit to be eligible for this program.  If you are uncertain if you qualify for a three bedroom unit, contact Denise Costello, Manager, at dcostello@mchenrycountyhousing.org, or 815/338-7752 X143.  For more information, please click here:

Garden Place Apartments in Cary, IL The McHenry County Housing Authority has partnered with the Garden Place Apartment complex in Cary, IL to offer a limited number of one, two, and three-bedroom project-based units. The complex is seeking potential tenants for these units based on a certain criteria.  Some families will be assisted and some may be put on a waiting list for the complex.All applicants for this complex must have income at or below 30% of Area Median Income.  Priority consideration will be granted to all applicants on the waiting list that are living or working in McHenry County.  Remaining applicants that do not meet the residency preference will be considered for housing after screening of priority applicants has been completed. 

Villas of Lake in the Hills, Lake in the Hills IL The McHenry County Housing Authority has partnered with the Villas of Lake in the Hills, LITH IL to offer a limited number of one, two, and three-bedroom project-based units. The complex is seeking potential tenants for these units based on a certain criteria.  Some families will be assisted and some may be put on a waiting list for the complex.  All applicants for this complex must have income at or below 30% of Area Median Income.  For the Villas of Lake in the Hills, the site-based waiting list will contain a preference for persons referred from the State of Illinois Referral Network. If a person referred from the State of Illinois Referral Network is determined eligible by MCHA, the person will receive a preference for the next available identified project-based voucher unit in Villas of Lake in the Hills.  Individuals and families who do not claim this preference will be placed on the waiting list in order of the date when their application was received by MCHA. 

Residences of Lake in the Hills, Lake in the Hills IL The McHenry County Housing Authority has partnered with the Residences of Lake in the Hills, LITH IL to offer a limited number of studio and one-bedroom project-based units. This is a 55 or older community.  The complex is seeking potential tenants for these units based on a certain criteria.  Some families will be assisted and some may be put on a waiting list for the complex.  All applicants for this complex must have income at or below 30% of Area Median Income.  For the Residences of Lake in the Hills, the site-based waiting list will contain a preference for persons with disabilities transitioning from licensed nursing facilities into a private rental unit. If a person with a disability who is on the Section 8 waiting list and who resides in a licensed nursing facility develops a service plan and is determined eligible by MCHA, the person will receive a preference for the next available identified project-based voucher unit in Residences of Lake in the Hills.  Individuals and families who do not claim this preference will be placed on the waiting list in order of the date when their application was received by MCHA. 

Creekview Apartments of Richmond The McHenry County Housing Authority has partnered with the Creekview Apartments in Richmond, IL to offer a limited number of one and two-bedroom project-based units. This is a 55 or older community.  The complex is seeking potential tenants for these units based on a certain criteria.  Some families will be assisted and some may be put on a waiting list for the complex.  All applicants for this complex must have income at or below 30% of Area Median Income.  Individuals and families will be placed on the waiting list in order of the date when their application was received by MCHA.  Please see this brocure for more information about this property:  Creekview Apartments of Richmond Additional Information 

 

Huntley Horizons, Huntley  The McHenry County Housing Authority has partnered with the Huntley Horizons complex in Huntley, IL to offer a limited number of one-bedroom project-based units.  This is a 62 or older community.  The complex is seeking potential tenants for these units based on a certain criteria.  Some families will be assisted and some may be put on a waiting list for the complex.  All applicants for this complex must have income at or below 50% of Area Median Income.  Priority consideration will be granted to all applicants on the waiting list that are living or working in McHenry County.  Remaining applicants that do not meet the residency preference will be considered for housing after screening of priority applicants has been completed. 

Rental Housing Support Program The MCHA has open waiting lists for the Rental Housing Support (RHS) Program.  The purpose of the RHS program is to help localities address the need for decent, affordable, permanent rental housing.  Under the RHS program, the Illinois Housing Development Authority shall administer grants to Local Administering Agencies (LAA's) to provide subsidies to landlords that will make housing units affordable to Extremely low (30% AMI) and Severely Low income households (15% AMI).  Background check forms must be completed for all members of the household 17 years of age or older.The open waiting lists are for:
