Success comes from stability. At McHenry County Housing Authority, we not only unlock the doors to affordable housing, we provide wraparound services needed in our community to keep people stably housed.
Working with our partners, we address the current and long-term needs of McHenry County residents through a number of programs, including housing, dental care, energy efficiency programs, rental assistance and home repair services.
The section 8 program would not exist without our partner landlords. The Housing Choice Voucher Program and its’ landlords help families afford decent, stable housing, avoid homelessness, and make ends meet.
We exist to assist low-income individuals and families to maintain an affordable, sanitary, and decent living environment, and to provide them with the means to avoid crisis situations and achieve economic independence.

“I say this now to all that would read about this wonderful gift I have received. McHenry County Housing Authority far exceeded the gift of warmth I now enjoy. They called asking if they could help me! What I say to you all, answer the call. These people are great. This program is out there for seniors and those in need. I can’t say enough how wonderful they all were to me.”
The program is a free service to income qualifying residents of McHenry County that are homeowners (currently unavailable to renters). The goal of this program is to make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient.
Improvements can also include air sealing of windows and doors, attic and foundation insulation, dense packing walls, repair/replacement of furnace and A/C, and proper ventilation of your home.
LIHEAP clients automatically qualify for this program.
Residents who are over income for LIHEAP can still qualify for Weatherization.
